Reflection #8

1.     What would you construct your costume of? Keep in mind that this is distinct from the fantasy, comic-book-world superhero self you are creating as part of your final project. Here, think about real world materials and equipment, keeping in mind your human limitations and the limitations of the law. You can use the heroes from the film as inspiration. Would you wear a mask? Why or why not? What about other equipment?

I believe that my costume would definitely consist of using a mask first off because I wouldn't want people to know that it was really me because that could always cause problems towards people. I would have a tighter fit costume that would consist of a bullet proof vest in case of problems. I think that I would always wear a cape to distinct myself as a superhero.
2.     The heroes in the film worked to help the homeless and to deter crime: What is a specific problem in your town that you might combat in your superhero identity?
I live in a small town so there is not a lot of crime or homelessness in my town. I feel like my duty would be to prevent drug deals and also smaller, pety crime such as car break ins.

3.     Which hero from the film do you most identify with, and why? How might we all be inspired by that hero to make a difference in our communities?
I feel like the hero that I most identify with is the guy that tried to stop the drug deals in the parks. Since I could most likely relate to those same problems in my hometown I can relate in such ways. I also liked how he called out the drug dealers with a megaphone because people know what is going on and they tend to just look the other way.

Reflection #7

In a number of the readings for this week as well as in the film X-Men, The Last Stand, the concept
How are the two experiences you imagine different? How are they similar? Can you make connections to individuals or groups in real-life society? How might X-men comics, TV shows and films help those groups or individuals understand themselves and their place in society?

Finally, Which mutant do you identify with most, and why? Would you seek out the "cure" if you were a mutant?

The two experiences of mutant power seem to be different when I imagine it. The way society would look at me would be different as an external view than an internal with the other mutant. The difference would be passing a homo sapiens. They are similar because even though the views may be different there is still the fact that I am a mutant. Society would be able to understand the mutant-like forms because of seeing the examples of the tv shows, comics, and movies. I believe that I would most identify with Storm because of the fact that she is somewhat like a mom like figure in the movie we watched. She takes care of not only herself but others in the school as well. She is also a very strong character that many people look up and respect.

Reflection #6

What kind of friendships do you have in your life, in Aristotelian terms? Can you imagine one of your current relationships ascending to the level of a Friendship of Virtue? What conditions would have to be present for this to happen?

I have some friendships in my life that I could never imagine not having. These friendships have been important to me because there have been times in my life that without them I really don't know what I'd do. I could imagine some of my friendships ascending to the level of a Friendship of Virtue because I would do anything for some of my friends and they would for me, just like the quote I'd take a bullet for you.

When have you experienced a time in your own life when one of your core beliefs or an essence of your own identity was questioned or challenged? How did you deal with it? If you have not experienced this, how might you imagine a similar challenge arising in the future? Like Kyle,  have you ever reacted to a situation purely from a place of emotion, without regard for the consequences? What happened?

I don't believe that I have experienced a time where my beliefs or identity has been questioned in the past, however I can imagine a similar challenge arising in the future when I go into the work force. As a woman there is judgement whether or not if you could perform to the standards of men. I could see myself reacting in a way of purely emotion because just because of gender does not mean one will be or do better than the opposite.
